Character NAME: Davesprite
Canon & MEDIUM: Homestuck, webcomic
Canon PULL-POINT: End of Act 5
Character AGE: 13
Character ABILITIES: Davesprite's quite good with a sword, having trained under his older Bro since he was a youngchick kid. While no particular art (i.e. fencing, kendo, etc.) seems to have been taught to him (sparring between those two was a free for all), he definitely knows how to defend himself with a blade in hand. No problemo there.
As a sprite, Davesprite also has an innate knowledge of the game Sburb and can tap into many of its intricacies and secrets. This is of no use to him in Exsilium, but it's kind of cool. Moving on-- levitation, homes. While Davesprite's wings appear to be useless hunks of feathery garbage, sprite powers also allow him to fly about. Nice. It's unknown if becoming part game mechanic allowed this version of Dave to keep his time powers, but—again. Not particularly useful in Ex-land where those cease to function.
Being a character from Homestuck, Davesprite has access to a unique form of hammperspace called a Captchalogue Deck. This basically allows him to hold objects in 'cards' which are placed within this symbolic program system within him. It's complicated. He's also in possession of a Strifedeck which simply determines what type of weapons he can use (blade and 1/2bladekind—swords and broken swords), and—again—holds them in some symbolic, alternate pocket dimension until he needs them.
Character HISTORY: [Homestuck Wiki]
Character PERSONALITY: This is where you'll describe your character's personality. It is important to focus on your character's motivations and their goals, as well as their behaviour in any given situation and their interactions with canonmates. We would like a minimum of three full-length paragraphs, as this is easily the most important aspect of your character.
Davesprite began his life as a perfectly human hipster named Dave Strider. Back then the most important things to him were upholding the family legacy of "irony" (re: tiered and structured insincerity) and taking faux MySpace pictures for the hell of it. He was the stereotypical coolkid to the core, or at least he put on the guise of one. Whether it was uncomfortably defending his guardian's "ironic" obsession with puppets (some of which may or may not have had sexual functions) or mocking his best friend's love of Nicholas Cage, there was an image to uphold and manner to project. Of course, the persisting problem was that Dave was never all that objectively "cool." The movies he made fun of? He knew way too many details about the plot to have watched them only once. The personal shit he kept in his room? Mostly comprised of Snoop Dogg paraphernalia and preserved dead things in jars. The boy can ramble on for ages about absolutely nothing, fabricating obnoxiously complicated metaphors out of nowhere just because silence apparently killed his grandma in a past life. But in his opinion, he was always chill. And that's all that matters.
Fast-forward to April of 2009 when John Egbert turned thirteen, and suddenly everything changed. Well, uh. Not the (highly subjective) coolness. That stayed the same. But where Dave's life had once been primarily comprised of Strifes (sparring battles) with his Bro and being a douchebag on the internet, it now became about beating a video game that started with the destruction of earth. Unlike his other self, Davesprite almost immediately became subject to a doomed timeline—a failure-destined Alternate Universe—that eventually led to his changing into a sprite in the first place. But before he merged with a kernelsprite (game construct) and rambunctious crow, he spent months trapped in Sburb. That chunk of time? It's taken its toll. From Davesprite's first appearance in the series, it's clear he's a more serious figure than his counterpart. While he's still capable of obscure speech and sarcasm when it suits him, he's become a great deal more direct. The self-centeredness that the alpha Dave displays has been subdued in birdboy; his focus is on saving everyone in the game. He doesn't really care what it takes, and considers himself written off from the start. He's doomed, he knows what happens to doomed players, and he's going to use what's left of his existence as much as possible. This leads to some 'cold'-seeming behavior, such as leaving behind an equally doomed version of Rose, but also to a strong list of priorities. Davesprite works 'backstage' to the other kid players, and he works efficiently.
To expand, basically, Davesprite doesn't mind showing some attachment or giving up control to others. As soon as he can afford to leave the Alpha him on his own, McCreamsicle here goes after Bro, proving that his loyalties have only grown stronger through his time in Sburb. While upon Bro's death Dave claims they had no real familial commitment, Davesprite clearly represents otherwise. He doesn't have time to screw around or always hide his emotions under the pokerface he used to adhere to. His irritation at John after he claims Davesprite isn't the "real" Dave shows insecurity in his station. In essence, he's Dave, and then not—a clone that's surpassed his other self in maturity and hasn't quite found where he fits in in the grand scheme of things.
The change in thought patterns to something calmer can be seen most easily in his conversation with Jadesprite. With the other sprite, Davesprite chills down to subzero and opens up, admitting that the Denizen of Dave's session gave him an option to repair one thing. Anything. By this point, Davesprite could have gotten his old body back (or even his guardian). Instead, he chose not to. He got a sword critical to the game's overall success fixed instead, and then suggested Jadesprite send it to Dave with her Space-powers. At that same point, he admits he thinks he'll probably die on the about to be meteor-devastated Skaia (a planet in the game world). In a lot of ways, Davesprite has "given up" on himself, but all the same, he hasn't given up on the game itself. While he doesn't see a future that includes him in it, he's still put his all into the success of other Dave—of his old friends as a whole. And that… that takes a whole lotta strength.
Additionally, Davesprite is probably the only kid who ever learned to not trust the trolls at all. He's civil to Terezi during their one conversation, but would likely never understand other Dave's eventual courting of the lady. To him, the trolls are a species he'd rather not deal with unless it's for the fun of fucking with 'em, and he hasn't done anything strictly for fun in a long while.
So, yeah. Davesprite is Dave but—but definitely not Dave. Life in Sburb is hard. Hard and only other Sburb players understand.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: If possible, I'd like Davesprite to have a shitty ninja sword- preferably the one that was once constantly piercing through his chest. He lost in it in his fight with Jack, but it'd be stellar if it could show up again in Exsilum. That said, Davesprite begins pretty good with a sword, but over time it's likely he'd become even better. The sword would hone itself to his new body's abilities—becoming lighter to swing and heavier to hit. Similar to Caledscratch, a magical sword the Daves have in Sburb, it would learn to 'break' and 'heal' so it could be used as either 1/2bladekind or regular.
Character INVENTORY: Literally the only thing Davesprite will be bringing along is a pair of iShades, his old sprite pendant, and a bunch of bandages around his chest.

First PERSON: Hey. [That's how it starts, because that's how it tends to start with a Strider. 'Hey,' 'yo,' 'sup.' Common fare. He's gone through all of the tablet's basic functions, played with its tutorial mode, and decided to get any awkwardness out of the way straight off the bat. In other words, he's addressing the world through video function.
Enjoy that enchanting shade of tangerine, Exsilium.]
Name's Davesprite. Kinda just wanted to know if anyone from the game is out here. You'll know what game I'm talkin' about so don't worry about it if you don't. Hush hush horseshit. Need to know basis and you don't actually want to.
[A brief consideration of anything else he might want to address.]
So I guess my sword has a mind now. Anyone up for a strife? I'd like to test that out.
Third PERSON: The return of his sword is a bittersweet experience, to be sure. Davesprite thought he'd never see it again after that grotesquely unfair battle with Jack. Now the damn thing's in his hands, and he's told it's got a 'mind' of sorts. Sentience, like a kernelsprite that starts out as a shining ball of radically dumb-looking light, then consumes your entire existence.
This sword once stabbed him through the middle. Well, not technically him, but the bird that is sort of a part of him. Once upon a time, he'd killed it (the now-him-bird), and while it was an accidental murder and there is a definitely a pun there he's not making good on, he'd been privately more worried about the sword at the time. Which is dumb because it's a shitty blade. Unbalanced with a hilt that used to be falling apart, but he guesses the Exsilium people fixed that up.
He turns his hand right than left. Doesn't feel sentient. Doesn't start chatting with him or telling him everything's going to be okay, Lil' Bro.
Oh God, is he projecting?
Davesprite's gotta chuckle at himself for that one, a real har har, because he should be grateful he's alive at the very least. Heck, more than alive, he's alive with a brand new mission he stands a chance of tearing the ass of up. He could win this, and the doomed thing? That probably won't even play a part.
It's not Sburb anymore. Not Sburb or Houston or anywhere that limits him. He should feel grateful.
He feels neutral. Beige. That's how he feels, really goddamn beige and like someone should tell him to make sure he files the new TPS reports.
At least the tablet's beckoning, and pushing away those feelings of passivity in favor of remembering he's got a new set of goals now. Hopefully Jade will show up soon, the memories of her sprite still hopping somewhere around in her brain so she remembers he believed in her. That'd be pretty cool. And if she's around, that doofus John will follow. And if the bucktoothed bandit comes a-callin', then the other coolkid. Then Rose, who will tell him, in purpose prose, he looks like shit.
What a great family.
He starts up the tablet's tutorial and takes a breath. Here we go again.
